America’s Best in Medicine Features Heidi Hagood, RN: RN Administrator at Legacy Hospice of Missouri
Bringing 27 Years of Clinical Experience to End-of-Life and Home Health Care Leadership
Heidi Hagood, RN, is an experienced Registered Nurse with 27 years in healthcare and more than two decades of specialized experience in home health and hospice care. She currently serves as RN Administrator at Legacy Hospice of Missouri, where she provides clinical leadership while maintaining a strong focus on compassionate, patient-centered care. Based in Sullivan, Missouri, Heidi has spent the past nine years serving her local community, guiding patients and families through some of life’s most critical and emotionally significant moments.
Heidi began her nursing career after earning her Associate Degree from Northeast Texas Community College. She started in medical-surgical nursing, serving as a charge nurse for a 36-bed unit at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, Texas. This early experience gave her a strong foundation in acute care, leadership, and patient coordination in fast-paced hospital settings.
Over time, Heidi transitioned into home health and hospice care, where she discovered her true professional calling. Her clinical expertise spans a wide range of patient populations, from pediatrics to end-of-life care. She also brings advanced skills in IV therapy and wound care, allowing her to support complex patient needs across both home-based and facility-based environments.
In her current leadership role, Heidi is dedicated to mentoring clinical teams while ensuring that patients receive care rooted in dignity, respect, and continuity. Her approach emphasizes meeting patients where they are physically, emotionally, and spiritually, while building trust that supports both healing and comfort throughout the care journey.
Heidi’s philosophy of care is grounded in the belief that meaningful human connection is essential at every stage of life. She emphasizes the importance of continuity and trust in caregiving, particularly during birth and end-of-life experiences.
When asked what she enjoys most about practicing nursing, Heidi shared: “I would say patient care—you take a crisis situation, no matter what is going on, and make it better for those patients. You’re either seeing someone healing, even in death; there’s a different kind of healing. It’s just rewarding. I think two times in life, you deserve to have the same person taking care of you, and I think that’s when you’re having a child and when you’re dying. I think you should be allowed the same person. I think that’s how you build comfort with somebody else, and how you build rapport. So I think giving that to someone and that rapport and that trust is probably how you do it.”
Driven by compassion and a commitment to excellence, Heidi Hagood continues to grow as a healthcare leader while remaining deeply dedicated to improving the quality of care for patients and families in her community and beyond.
