Alfrediriche Viray, DNP, MSN, BSN, is a highly skilled emergency and critical care nurse currently serving as an ER Charge Nurse at Kayenta Health Center, an Indian Health Service (IHS) facility in Kayenta, Arizona. With extensive experience in high-acuity environments, Dr. Viray has built a distinguished career defined by clinical excellence, strong leadership, and a deep commitment to patient-centered emergency care.
In his current role, Dr. Viray is responsible for overseeing emergency department operations, supervising clinical staff, and ensuring the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality care. Dr. Viray earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of San Agustin in Iloilo City, Philippines. He later completed a Master of Science in Nursing with a focus on Leadership and Administration at Southern Utah University, followed by a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree specializing in Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner at Arizona State University. His academic achievements are complemented by his recognition as a Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society member and ANEW Scholar.
Earlier in his career in the Philippines, Dr. Viray gained valuable experience across a range of healthcare settings, including St. Paul’s Hospital Iloilo, Perpetual Help Medical Center Las Piñas, and Dr. Ricardo S. Provido Sr. Memorial District Hospital. These experiences provided him with a strong foundation in emergency care, intensive care, medical-surgical nursing, pediatrics, labor and delivery, and perioperative services.
Prior to his current position at Kayenta Health Center, Dr. Viray served as an ER Staff Nurse at Dilkon Medical Center and held multiple leadership roles at Sage Memorial Hospital, including MTU Charge Nurse, ER Staff Nurse, and MTU Supervisor. In these roles, he contributed significantly to staff development, real-time chart auditing, and the implementation of clinical protocols and hospital policies designed to improve patient safety and workflow efficiency.
“I love the adrenaline rush of emergency nursing,” Dr. Viray says. “I’m the type of nurse who thrives when it’s busy, and I feel like my critical thinking skills are really put to the test, especially with traumatic experiences, accidents, and emergency situations. Licensed in Arizona, Dr. Viray holds multiple advanced certifications, including ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC, and NRP. He is also an active member of professional organizations such as the Filipino American Nurse Practitioners of Arizona. Fluent in both English and Tagalog, he is able to provide culturally competent, patient-centered care to diverse populations, strengthening communication and trust across the communities he serves.
