Nathan Farkas, MD, Recognized by America’s Best in Medicine for Advancing Local Precision Neurovascular Care

Secaucus, NJ Nathan Farkas, MD, an Endovascular Surgical Neurologist with Interventional Neuro Associates, has been recognized by America’s Best in Medicine for his work expanding access to timely neurovascular care while keeping patients treated close to home.

Dr. Farkas specializes in minimally invasive, catheter-based, and image-guided treatment of complex brain and spine disorders. His clinical focus includes acute ischemic stroke, cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, intracranial atherosclerotic disease, and disorders related to cerebrospinal fluid dynamics and the cerebral venous system. His practice emphasizes delivering advanced care at the hospital where patients initially present, reducing delays associated with interfacility transfer and preserving at-risk brain tissue.

“For patients with stroke and other neurologic emergencies, time is critical,” said Dr. Farkas. “Avoiding unnecessary transfers allows care to begin sooner and helps maintain continuity for patients and families. My goal is to provide advanced neurointerventional treatment within the communities where patients live.”

Dr. Farkas has experience serving in stroke directorships and cerebrovascular program leadership roles. His work has focused on strengthening local systems of cerebrovascular care, with an emphasis on keeping clinical expertise, resources, and decision-making within the community to elevate the overall quality of neurologic care.

Through Interventional Neuro Associates, Dr. Farkas provides high-acuity neurointerventional coverage across a regional network of academic and community hospitals throughout New Jersey and the greater New York area. This approach supports rapid access to stroke intervention and emergency neurovascular care while minimizing disruption to patients and local care teams.

In addition to arterial stroke intervention, Dr. Farkas has a focused interest in cerebral venous disorders and cerebrospinal fluid related pathology. These conditions are often underdiagnosed and may require nuanced physiologic assessment and individualized treatment strategies. His multidisciplinary background allows him to approach these cases with careful integration of neurologic, radiologic, and endovascular expertise.

Dr. Farkas earned his medical degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine and completed his neurology residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University in St. Louis. He pursued fellowship training in Cerebrovascular Neurology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals, followed by advanced endovascular neuroradiology training at Montefiore Medical Center, where he gained extensive experience managing complex neurovascular disease.

In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Farkas is involved in research and professional education. He has delivered invited presentations on physician well-being and second victim syndrome in high-acuity procedural specialties, reflecting his interest in sustainable and humane models of medical practice.

Inspired by a family legacy in neurovascular medicine, Dr. Farkas remains committed to patient-centered care, clinical integrity, and thoughtful innovation. Outside of medicine, he enjoys scuba diving, traveling, home brewing, and gardening.
